Detailed 14-day Uganda Safari Tour Itinerary

Day 1:  ENTEBBE – KAMPALA

Met on arrival at the Entebbe International Airport by our Uganda Safari rep. You will be briefed on this 14 day Uganda safari tour.

Later you will enjoy a short transfer to Kampala. You will be checked in at your Kampala hotel. On this day you are booked at Hotel Africana on bed and breakfast basis.


Day 2:  KAMPALA – JINJA – MBALE

Start your 14 day Uganda safari tour day with an early breakfast in Kampala. You will leave to the second largest industrial town in Uganda, Jinja.

This town is characterized by the Asian quarters. It is home to the brewery industries and the colorful gardens. You will visit the Source of the Nile from Lake Victoria and the monument of Gandhi.

This 14 day Uganda safari tour will also go to the Hindu temple before you proceed to “Ntanda Falls”. These are spectacular rapids on the river Nile a few kilometers from the source.

You can opt to try the unforgettable white water rafting at cost. This is one of the main attractions in Jinja. You will enjoy your lunch in Jinja where fresh fish tilapia and local food are served.

Later in the afternoon your 14 day Uganda safari tour will proceed to Mbale for dinner and overnight at Mbale Resort Hotel.


Day 3: THE SIPI FALLS

Enjoy an early breakfast on this day of your 14 day Uganda safari tour before you go for nature walk to the Sipi Falls. These are four spectacular waterfalls on the river Sipi. The river has its origins from Mount Elgon.

The starting point is from Crow’s Nest, a camping and lodging site. This is also where community projects and training of local guides are organized.

Your 14 day Uganda safari tour will visit the caves and the plantations of coffee, matooke and sugar cane. Return back in time for lunch before you drive back to Kampala. Drop off will be at Hotel Africana booked on bed and breakfast.


Day 4:  KAMPALA –  LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast your 14 day Uganda safari tour drives westwards. Your 14-day Uganda safari tours Lake Mburo National Park. You will have a stopover at the Equator for photographs.

Proceed to your Lake Mburo National Park accommodation for check in and lunch. Some rest will prepare you for the evening game drive at 1600hrs. This is an ecosystem of water, wetland and savannah dominated by acacia trees.

You will be looking for impalas, Ugandan kobs, warthogs, bushbucks, waterbucks and zebras. Also, in your list should be oribi, topi, buffaloes, baboons and other monkeys.

Do not forget to stop on the way and admire the beautiful long horn Ankole cattle.

Return for dinner and overnight at the Lake Mburo Safari Lodge.


Lake Mburo National Park

8 Days Uganda Safari Trail

Lake Mburo National Park is Uganda’s smallest national park and the closest park to both Kampala and Entebbe. If you are planning for wildlife safaris in Uganda, birding safaris or want to enjoy game viewing then Lake Mburo National Park should be a possible destination for you.

Lake Mburo National Park is located approximately 240 kilometers from Kampala and only 30 Kilometers from Mbarara – the biggest town in Western Uganda.

From entebbe airport to lake mburo national park, its approximately 290km. The national park is neighboured by 4 big districts of Uganda which include Mbarara town, Lyantonde, Isingiro North and Kiruhura. Lake mburo national park also happens to be the nearest national park in Uganda that is close to the President’s Home town in Kiruhura district. From lake mburo, one can drive for about 2 hours a distance of about 99km to reach the president’s home in nyabushozi-kiruhura district.

The park is easily accessible by road in about a 3hours’ or 3 hours’ and half drive for those who want to do lake mburo safaris/ uganda safaris/ uganda tours from Kampala or Entebbe respectively. The coordinates are: 00 36S, 30 57E (Latitude: 0.6000; Longitude: 30.9500).

It covers an area of 260 square kilometers but still the smallest of Uganda‘s Savannah national parks and underlined by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks which date back.


Day 5: LAKE MBURO – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast drive through Kihihi town to the Ishasha sector. This is the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The road is particularly dirt and passes through the slopes of the hills. The area is having a wonderful landscape.

You will stop for lunch before embarking on a game drive in search of the tree climbing lions. Later proceed to Katungulu to check in to your Queen Elizabeth safari lodge.

Your dinner and overnight will be at Mweya Safari Lodge.


Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park resides in a fertile, equatorial area and has beautiful scenery. The park has two lakes connected by a channel over-looking a high peninsula.

It is Uganda’s most popular and accessible savannah reserve. Queen Elizabeth national Park has a total area of 1978km².

Queen Elizabeth National Park is primarily associated with grassy savannah plains. This impressive park also includes within its boundaries, leafy rainforests and dense papyrus swamps. There are also natural volcanic crater lakes.

As a result, it has one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any game reserve in the world. They include a total of 95 recorded mammal species and more then 610 species of birds.

Day 6: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Enjoy an early breakfast before embarking on a Game drive. This will be at the Mweya peninsula and Kasenyi Plains in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Return to your lodge for lunch and some short rest. In the afternoon go for the exciting launch trip along the Kazinga channel. This is a natural channel that connects Lake Edward and Lake George.

You will see elephants, buffaloes, water bucks, hippos and many other water birds. On return you will proceed to Mweya Safari Lodge in time for dinner and overnight.


Day 7: FORT PORTAL, THE CRATER LAKES AND TEA PLANTATIONS

After breakfast drive to Fort Portal and have lunch at the Rwenzori Travelers’ Inn. In the afternoon explore the area of Kasenda crater lakes.

You will go through Rwaihamba to view the lake Nyinambuga and drive to the top of Rusoona hill. From here you can see the fascinating Mahoma Falls.

Tourism here is a means for the local community to improve on the social services. From “top of the world” enjoy a superb view of the region and of many crater lakes.

You will stop at the Royal Palace of Toro Kingdom. Here you get to enjoy some historical and cultural information. Return back for dinner and overnight at Rwenzori Travelers’ Inn.


Day 8: FORT PORTAL – MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Start your day on the 14 day Uganda safari tour with an early breakfast. This will be followed by early departure to Murchison Falls National Park.

The park is located in the North. Murchison Falls National Park is the largest protected area in Uganda. It covers an area of 3.840 Kmsq, whose name derives from the falls on the Victoria Nile.

The Murchison falls is one of the most attractive features in the whole of East Africa. The drive takes you through Hoima where you will stop for lunch before you follow the coast of Lake Albert.

The panorama is fascinating, especially when reaching the Albertine Rift Valley escarpment. Proceed to Murchison Falls National Park through Masindi.

You will cross the Nile and check in at Paraa Safari Lodge.


Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda is the largest of National Parks. The Nile river runs through it and that river is the Nile River.

The name “Murrchison” Falls was given to us by Sir Samuel White Baker. This was a British explorer, naturalist, big game hunter and an engineer. He also served as the Governor-General of the Equatorial Nile Basin. That is today’s South Sudan and Northern Uganda between Apr. 1869 – Aug. 1873.

Baker named them after Sir Roderick Murchison, president of the Royal Geographical Society. The falls lend their name to the surrounding Murchison Falls National Park.

The Park was started under the colonial rule by the British in 1952. It was renamed the Falls “Kabarega”, after the Omukama (King)Kabarega of Bunyoro. This was never promulgated and the name reverted to Murchison Falls following his downfall.


Day 9 : MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Embark on a morning game drive after breakfast on the 14 day Uganda safari tour. Be on the lookout for lions, hyenas, giraffes, elephants among other wildlife.

Later you will return to your safari lodge for lunch. This is before you go for a launch cruise trip from Paraa to the bottom of the Murchison Falls. View hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, kobs, giraffes, elephants and a large variety of water birds.

After you return to the jetty, you will be transferred to Paraa Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight.


Day 10: THE SSESE ISLANDS ON LAKE VICTORIA

Enjoy an early breakfast on the 14 day Uganda safari tour and leave for Kampala. You will arrive in Kampala in time for lunch before you are transferred to Kalangala.

You will enjoy a ferry transfer to Ssese Islands. This is an archipelago of 84 islands on Lake Victoria. You will arrive in late afternoon at Bukasa Island the second largest.

You will have dinner and overnight at Victoria View Guest House. This belongs to Father Christopher. This place gives you an opportunity to experience a unique atmosphere. It is quite and tranquil as it is far away from everything.


Day 11: A BIT OF ADVENTURE: BUKASA AND BUGALA ISLANDS

After breakfast on the 14 day Uganda safari tour goes into exploration. You get to learn the interior and the coasts of Bukasa Island. This will be a four hours hike.

You will have a taste of the local fruits along the road. Enjoy the taste of fresh pineapple, guavas (amapera), passion fruit and oranges. You will also view the local cultivation.

They grow cassava, banana, sweet potatoes and many more. You get to exchange for a little tip and courtesy. You will also have an opportunity to see the production of banana brew.

The hike will end at the little and pretty village of Kisaba. This is a real true experience of fishermen life in Uganda.

In the afternoon enjoy the way back to the landing site. This is using the only available means of transport in the island. It is the tractor of Father Christopher.

Later you will enjoy a boat ride to the largest of the Ssese Islands, Bugala Island. You will check in for dinner and overnight at Ssese Palm Beach Resort, at Lutoboka beach.


Day 12: BACK TO KAMPALA

After breakfast go for “bird watching” activity while exploring Bugala Island. In the afternoon enjoy a boat ride back to Entebbe.

You will be picked up and drive back to Kampala. You will be dropped off at Hotel Africana where you are booked on bed and breakfast basis.


Day 13: SHOPPING IN UGANDA

Start this day of the 14 day Uganda safari tour with breakfast. This will be followed by a city tour of Kampala. You will visit Namirembe Cathedral. Walk through the city centre.

Visit the Parliament Building, the National Theatre, the art gallery “Nommo”. Lunch will be on own arrangement in a city restaurant.

In the afternoon, visit the Kasubi Tombs, where the kings of Buganda are buried. You will also visit the Bulange, Royal Palace and Bahai Temple.

Return back to Hotel Africana in time for overnight at the hotel.


Day 14: KAMPALA – ENTEBBE

After breakfast you will end your 14 day Uganda safari tour with transfer to Entebbe. You will be dropped off at the Entebbe International Airport. This is in time for your departure flight.
