Day 1: Kigali – Akagera National Park
you will be met by our Rwanda safari rep at the airport. Enjoy a briefing on the 5 day budget gorilla tour Rwanda. This will be followed by a morning departure from Kigali. The drive takes you to Akagera National Park.
Your arrival will be in time for lunch. Relaxation in the afternoon will help you prepare for the next events. You will embark on an afternoon game drive within the park.
Be on the lookout for Giraffes, Buffaloes, and Spotted Hyenas. There are also Elephants, Crocodiles, Hippos and plenty of bird life. Your dinner and overnight will be at Akagera budget accommodation.
About Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park was gazetted in 1934 and is one of most popular wildlife safari park in Rwanda. It covers an area of approximately 1085 KM It and just 2 hours drive East of Kigali Rwanda.
Akagera National Park is dominated by the labyrinth of swamps. there are lakes that follow the meandering course of the Akagera River. This is the most remote source of the Nile.
This is archetypal African savannah landscape of tangled acacia woodland interspersed with open grassland.
Akagera National Park Habitats and Attractions:
Among the park habitats include Bush Savannah tangled with acacia. there are branchystagia woodlands with stands of Euphorbia candlebrum. We also have patches of rolling grasslands, riverine, lakes and swamps. To the west of the park, there are hills reaching to elevations of 1600m-1800m above sea level.
Akagera is, above all, big game country! Herds of elephant and buffalo emerge from the woodland to drink at the lakes. Lucky visitors might stumble across a leopard, a spotted hyena or even a stray lion. Giraffe and zebra haunt the savannah.
There are more than a dozen types of antelope inhabit the park. Most common is the handsome chestnut-coated impala. There ia also the diminutive oribi and secretive bushbuck. We cant leave out the tsessebe and the world's largest antelope, the Cape eland.
Day 2: Akagera National Park
Start your 5 day budget gorilla tour Rwanda with an early breakfast. This will be followed by a transfer to Rusumo waterfall. You will pass via the Imigongo traditional handcraft makers.
It is time to sample Mother Nature’s wonderful scene. This beauty of the waterfall is worth the visit. You will return to your lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon you have a boat riding in Ihema Lake.
You will visit Nyirabiyoro historical island. This is home to many crocodiles, hippos and other species of rare birds. Your dinner and overnight will be at Akagera budget accommodation.
Day 3: Akagera – Parc Nationale des Volcans

About Volcanoes National Park
Parc National des Volcans was the first national park in Africa. It is in northwestern Rwanda. This park bordersVirunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We also have Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda. It is home to five of eight volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains.
The area was first gazetted in 1925 to protect gorillas from poachers. There was an extension of the borders in 1929. Democratic Republic of Congo gained independence in 1960, the park had to be split in two. This was shared with Rwanda.
By 1967, the park became the base for American naturalist Dian Fossey. She came to research mountain gorillas. Fossey exposed the problems that gorillas were facing to the world. She has been credited with saving them from extinction. Despite being murdered in 1985, Fossey’s memory and legacy lives on.
Today, Parc National des Volcans remains on your safari tour to Rwanda. It is a haven for gorillas as there are five gorilla families found in the region.
Other mammals found in this Rwanda National park include the golden monkey. we also have buffalos and bushbuck as well as 178 recorded bird species.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda
Your budget gorilla tour Rwanda day will start early. This will be with an early breakfast. After getting your picnic lunch boxes you will proceed to the head office. This is in time for the briefing at 0800 hrs.
You will meet your armed ranger and guide. If you need porters, you can get one or two to help you. This is at a cost of course. It is time to tackle the day’s activity. You will venture into the forest trails in search of the apes.
Your trek follows the path of the mountain gorillas assigned to you. The trek can be quite tough due to terrain and time taken. You can take approximately 2-8 hours to undertake the trekking. Return to your lodge in time for dinner and overnight. This will be at Kinigi Guest House.
Day 5: Volcanoes - Kigali
Your 5 day budget gorilla tour Rwanda starts with breakfast. This will be followed by a departure to Kigali. If you have an optional activity you may do it before departure. This includes golden monkey trekking.
You may also opt to climb the Visoke Mountains. All these can be arranged at an extra cost. You will proceed to Kigali International Airport in time for your departure flight.
