Detailed 8 Day Budget Camping Safari Kenya Tour
Day 1: Nairobi – Mount Kenya
Our Kenya safari rep will meet you in the morning. This will be either at JKIA or your Nairobi hotel. After introductions, you will be briefed on this budget camping safari Kenya tour.
Drive north to the foot of Africa’s second highest mountain, Mount Kenya. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Sirimon Cottage.
The afternoon will be spent at leisure. Dinner and overnight will be at your cottage.
Mount Kenya National Park
Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa. Due to its unique ecosystems which change the higher you go up the mountain.
Mount Kenya has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve. Many climbers, hikers, trekkers and adventure enthusiasts challenge themselves. This is by ascending the mountain each year.
The Mount Kenya National Park is located about 175km (108 miles) from Nairobi. It covers around 700 square kilometers protecting the mountain. It is between altitudes of 11,000ft and 17,058ft above sea level.
There is a good tar road that circles the base of the mountain, connecting the region's main towns. They are Naro Moru, Nanyuki, Meru and Embu.
Day 2: Naro Moru – Samburu National Reserve
After your morning breakfast, you will leave north. This will be a drive to the Samburu National Reserve.
Your arrival will be in time for lunch at the Ololokwe Guest Resort. After a short nap, embark on an evening game drive at 1600hrs.
This game drive within the park will introduce you to the game in the area. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Samburu National Reserve
Samburu National Reserve is a rugged and semi-desert park. It is located in Samburu district in the Rift Valley Province in central Kenya.
The park neighbors the homes of the Samburu tribe of Kenya,. This is a tribe known for their remote culture, pastoral and nomadic way of life.
Samburu National Reserve consists of a low lying, semi arid plain. It is on the southern bank of the northern Ewaso Ngiro River.
The reserve which lies 9km east of Buffalo Springs National Reserve was gazetted in 1974.
The beautiful stark landscape is dominated by Samburu Hill in the south. At the foot of which is a rugged area with steep ravines.
The Ewaso Nyiro River is the lifeline of the area. Crocodile and hippo share the river with many small herds of elephant. They bathe and frolic in the muddy brown waters during the heat of the day.
This is before returning later to browse the lush vegetation of the riverine forest.
Day 3: Samburu National Reserve
A full day will be spent in the Samburu Game Reserve. The activities to be undertaken will include with morning and afternoon game viewing.
The area around the life giving Uaso Nyiro River is home to the rare and beautiful wildlife species. They include the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Gerenuk, gazelle and the Somali ostrich.
Elephant, buffalo, lion leopard and other plains game are also abundant here. All meals and overnight will be at the Ololokwe Guest Resort.
Day 4: Aberdare National Park
After breakfast you will drive south to Aberdare region. You will arrive in time for lunch at the Sapper Hut. This is situated deep in the Aberdare forest at an altitude of over 2000 meters.
Throughout the day and night forest animals visit around. This will let you have many exciting moments. Dinner and overnight will be at your hut.
Aberdare National Park
The Aberdare National Park, extends over a total land expanse of about 767 sq Km. It extends over the higher areas of the Aberdare Mountain Ranges in Central Kenya.
The park lies between an altitude range of 1829m and 4001m above sea level. The terrain is wide-ranging with deep ravines. These go across the eastern and western forested slopes.
Some of the wild animals common within this park are include Black Rhinos and baboons. There are also sykes monkeys, white & black Colobus monkeys and leopards.
Among the rare species here are lions, golden cats plus bongo. the latter is a rare to find forest antelope that lives in the bamboo forest.
Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park
Your day on budget camping safari Kenya starts with breakfast. You will then leave to Lake Nakuru National Park. This is one of the many beautiful Rift Valley Lakes.
It is home to thousands of flamingos and other bird and animal life. You will have a stop at the Thompson Falls before proceeding. Arrival at the Wildlife Clubs of Kenya Hostels will be in time for lunch.
In the afternoon a game drive will preoccupy your time. Return back to the safari camp for dinner and overnight.
Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru was first gazetted as a bird sanctuary in 1960. It was upgraded to National Park status in 1968. A northern extension was added to the park in 1974 and the lake was designated as a Ramsar site in 1990.
The foundation of the park’s food chains is the cyanophyte spirulina platensis. This can support huge numbers of lesser flamingo.
Lake Nakuru National Park has a shallow strong alkaline lake with 62 kilometers squared. The park is set in a picturesque landscape of surrounding woodland and grassland.
The landscape includes areas of marsh and grasslands alternating with rocky cliffs and outcrops. There are stretches of acacia woodland and rocky hillsides. The hillsides are covered with a Euphorbia forest on the eastern perimeter.
Day 6: L. Nakuru – Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast leave through the floor of The Great Rift Valley. This is the longest rift in the crust of the earth. It is also referred to as the Gregory Rift Valley.
You will b heading to the Masai Mara National Reserve. You will be at the Mara Wildebeest Camp in time for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game drive at 1600 hrs. Here you have good chance of spotting lions, elephants, cheetah and if you are lucky, the shy leopard.
Return back for dinner and overnight at Mara Wildebeest Camp.
Masai Mara National Reserve
Masai Mara National Reserve is 1.510 sq km and is managed by local authorities.
The Maasai are a strongly independent people. They still value tradition and ritual as an integral part of their everyday lives. They regard themselves not just as residents of this area.
They are as much a part of the life of the land as the land is a part of their lives.
The Maasai rarely hunt and living alongside wildlife in harmony is part of their beliefs. Lions and Wildebeest play as important a role in their cultural beliefs, as do their own herds of cattle.
This co-existence makes this Maasai land one of the world’s most unique wilderness regions.
At the heart of these lands is the Masai Mara Game Reserve. This is considered to be Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve.
The Mara comprises 200 sq miles of open plains, woodlands and riverine forest. Contiguous with the plains of the Serengeti, the Mara is home to a breathtaking array of life.
Day 7: Masai Mara National Reserve
Spend full day of in this natural paradise of Masai Mara National Reserve. You will be among the zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, buffalo, elephant, antelope and gazelle.
You should look forward to encounter prides of lion. They will either be hunting or resting in the shade of acacia trees or lying low in the tall grass.
You can opt for a full day game drive with picnic lunch boxes. As an option you may enjoy a morning and afternoon game drives. This will be at 0630 hrs and 1600 hrs.
The Mara is the northern extension of the Serengeti. Its rolling plains are home to hundreds of plains game together with predators that feed on them.
You will have all your meals and overnight at Mara Wildebeest Camp.
Day 8: Masai Mara – Nairobi
