7 Day Cape Winelands Tour Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Town - Franschoek
Meet and greet upon arrival for the Cape Winelands Tour at the airport or your hotel in Cape town. This will be followed by a transfer to the picturesque village of Franschhoek. It is a one-hour fifteen minutes’ drive from Cape Town International Airport.
Today, you will check into your room at the Franschhoek Country House. This will be your home away from home for the next three days.
Franschhoek Country House is a five-star luxury hotel in Cape town. The establishment is nestled in the Franschhoek Valley. It is only one kilometer from this quaint village. It is famous as the wine and food capital of South Africa. The town is popular for its art galleries, craft shops, restaurants and cafes.
Day 2: Full Day Cape Winelands Tour
The day on Cape Winelands Tour starts with breakfast. This will be followed by a private, full-day, guided tour. The tour will include leisure exploration of historic Wine Route towns. This includes a stop for a delicious lunch. You will visit Stellenbosch to enjoy the town’s oak-shaded streets. Also on the table for you is Cape Dutch architecture and alfresco cafés.
You will then journey through the Franschhoek Valley with its endless mountain vistas. Got to have a stop in Paarl, ‘the pearl of the Cape’. This is home to the Afrikaans language. Paarl is the third oldest town in South Africa.
At Paarl you will enjoy the well-maintained Cape Dutch-style homes. They come with beautiful gardens and oak tree-lined streets. Your Cape Winelands Tour will visit the acclaimed Boschendal Manor House. It is an 1812 period-restored home. Here you will enjoy wine tasting and a cellar tour on some of the finest Cape wine estates.
Day 3: Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour
Today you will spend a full day on Cape Winelands Tour exploring the Cape Peninsula. This will be at leisure with a stop for lunch. The highlights of the day’s itinerary include a visit to the rocky headlands of the Cape of Good Hope. You will also have a stop at the famous Boulders Beach penguin colony.
The Cape Winelands Tour passes through Hout Bay and stop for a 40-minute boat trip to Duiker Island. This is an optional extra and payable as an extra. Here you can see thousands of Cape fur seals up close in their natural environment.
You will drive through the historical naval town of Simon’s Town to Boulders Beach. You may have the fortune of seeing baboons, bontebok and ostriches. There is a diversity of birds and even the seasonal southern right whales. This is at the Cape Point Nature Reserve.
You will end the Cape Winelands Tour day at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. This is at the eastern foot of Table Mountain.
Day 4: Cape Winelands - Thornybush Game Reserve
After exploring all the magical locations, it is time to leave the Cape and head north. In the morning you will be transferred to Cape Town International Airport. This is for a two-hour flight to Johannesburg.
Your connecting flight takes only an hour to get to the small bush town of Hoedspruit. This is near the western perimeter of the Kruger National Park.
You will be met at Eastgate Airport and enjoy a transfer to the Thornybush Private Game Reserve. Here you will stay in their Chapungu Luxury Tented Camp for three nights on an all-inclusive basis.

Kruger National Park, in northeastern South Africa, is one of Africa’s largest game reserves. Its high density of wild animals includes the Big 5. They are the lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffaloes.
Kruger National Park is a South African National Park and one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of 19,485 km2 (7,523 sq mi). It is in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa. This South African national park extends 360 km (220 mi) from north to south and 65 km (40 mi) from east to west. The administrative headquarters are in Skukuza.
Areas of the park were first protected by the government of the South African Republic in 1898. It became South Africa's first national park in 1926.
Hundreds of other mammals make their home here. There are also a diverse number of bird species such as vultures, eagles and storks. Mountains, bush plains and tropical forests are all part of the landscape.
Day 05 - 06 Enjoy an unforgettable African safari.
The next two days of Cape Winelands Tour allows you to stay in the heart of the African bush. Thornybush Game Reserve has just eight luxury tents. This creates an intimate experience that is quiet and peaceful. Each tent has private bathroom facilities, including a romantic bushveld bath. Wooden deck paths join the various parts of the camp to the communal area.
Guided game drives in open safari vehicles and guided walks are available twice each day. This is in the early morning and late afternoon. For the rest of the day, relax by the pool or sit in silence. You will be out to spot any of the few hundred bird species in the area and enjoy watching animals walking past.

Day 07 Thornybush to Johannesburg
After an early morning game drive on the last day of your Cape Winelands Tour, return for breakfast. You will enjoy a transfer to Eastgate Airport in Hoedspruit. You should be here in time for your flight back to Johannesburg.
