Detailed 3 Day Rwanda Golden Monkey Trekking Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

You will be met by our Rwanda safari rep at Kigali International Airport. After introduction, you will enjoy a briefing on the Rwanda golden monkey trekking safari. This will be followed by a departure driving north.

You will enjoy the scenic drive through Rwandan countryside to Ruhengeri Township. The township is located in the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes. You will arrive in time for lunch at your Volcanoes safari lodge.

Volcanoes National Park runs along the border with the DRC and Uganda. This is home to the Rwandan section of the Virungas. The Virungas are utterly spellbinding. A few would argue that this is not one of the most exciting national parks in Africa.

Trekking golden monkeys and gorillas is a similar experience. It is in a small group of no more than eight people, and you can spend one hour with the monkeys once you find them.

The endangered species are active creatures, and jump from tree to tree. This is quite interesting and a little difficult to photograph!

Day 2: Golden Monkey Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

You will start your Rwanda golden monkey safari day with an early breakfast. This is to be followed by drive with picnic lunch boxes to the park headquarters.

Enjoy some moments of briefing by the rangers. In groups of six and accompanied by an armed ranger embark on the trek. The “Little Primates” of the Virungas, the Golden Monkey is endangered. Their numbers have been on the decline. On meeting your group, you have an hour or so with them.

Watch them feed, pet and play with each other. You will have a break for lunch. This will be followed by a trek back to the starting point. You will meet your driver guide here. You will be transferred back to your lodge for an afternoon at leisure. Your dinner and overnight will be at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park – Kigali

wake up on this Rwanda golden monkey safari day to an early breakfast. It is time for a leisure drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival, you may visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre.

You can also have a city tour of Kigali. You will later be dropped off at your Kigali hotel. For those flying out, you will receive a transfer to Kigali Airport. This will be in time for your departure flight.
