Detailed 7 Day Rwanda Budget Tour

Day 1: Kigali – Akagera National Park

About Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park covers 2500 km² of savannah. This Rwanda National park is west of the Kagera River, in the north-east of Rwanda. The park has a variety of wildlife and is a habitat for over 500 different species of birds.

Herds of elephant and buffalo emerge from the woodland to drink at the lakes. You may stumble across a leopard, a spotted hyena or even a lion. Giraffe and zebra haunt the savannah, and more than a dozen types of antelope inhabit the park.

Akagera was founded in 1934 by the Belgian government. It is in northeastern Rwanda, along the border with Tanzania. The park has four ecosystems: low mountains, swamps, woodlands and savannah.

Akagera was once home to a diverse and abundant population of flora and fauna. Much of this suffered as a result of the decline in the park’s regulation. This was during and after the Rwandan Civil War.

Nyungwe forest is the largest remaining montane forest in Africa. This park covers an area of 970 kilometers squared and it was established in the year 2004.

Nyungwe rainforest is located in the southern part of Rwanda. This is at the border of Burundi to the south, Democratic Republic of the Congo to the western part of Rwanda. Nyungwe rainforest national park is the best-preserved Montana rain forest in central Africa. Its a great place for Rwanda chimpanzee safaris.

Nyungwe forest national park is located in watershed. It is between the basin of river Congo to the west part of the river Nile to the east.

Day 4: Rwanda Chimpanzee Tracking
